Windows Server 2025 availability
Windows Server 2025 is now deployable as a virtual server through the ColossusCloud control panel. Select it from the operating system list for a Windows server ready in minutes, fully updated and configured for optimal performance.
Windows Server 2025 benefits
Windows Server 2025 brings significant improvements:
Hotpatching
Apply security updates without server reboots. Hotpatching delivers critical security fixes while applications keep running, reducing downtime and maintenance windows significantly.
Enhanced security
- Credential Guard improvements protecting against credential theft attacks
- Secured-core server capabilities for hardware-rooted security
- Built-in protection against firmware-level threats
SMB over QUIC
Access file shares securely over internet without VPN. SMB over QUIC encrypts all traffic and works through firewalls blocking traditional SMB ports.
Improved Active Directory
For domain environments, Windows Server 2025 includes Active Directory enhancements with better performance, security improvements, and new management capabilities.
Better container support
Run Windows containers with improved performance and compatibility. Windows Server 2025 continues Microsoft’s containerization investment for Windows workloads.
Virtual TPM for all Windows Server 2025 deployments
Every Windows Server 2025 VPS includes virtual TPM (Trusted Platform Module). TPM is security feature Windows relies on for advanced security capabilities:
- BitLocker drive encryption protecting data at rest
- Windows Hello for Business for passwordless authentication
- Credential Guard for isolating and protecting credentials
- Device health attestation for verifying system integrity
With virtual TPM enabled by default on all Windows Server 2025 deployments, these security features work immediately without additional configuration.
KVM enlightenments for enhanced performance
Our VPS platform uses KVM enlightenments (also known as Hyper-V enlightenments) significantly enhancing Windows performance in virtualized environments.
KVM enlightenments are paravirtualization optimizations allowing Windows to communicate more efficiently with underlying hypervisors. Instead of Windows treating virtual hardware as physical hardware, enlightenments enable direct guest OS and hypervisor communication for:
- Timer synchronization: More accurate timekeeping without emulated hardware timer overhead
- Memory management: Efficient memory handling between guest and host
- Interrupt handling: Faster interrupt delivery and processing
- Spinlock optimization: Reduced CPU waste when waiting for locks
The result is Windows VPS performing significantly closer to bare metal than standard virtualized setups without these optimizations.
VirtIO drivers pre-installed
Every Windows Server 2025 template includes VirtIO drivers built in. VirtIO provides paravirtualized I/O for disk and network operations, delivering near-native performance instead of fully emulated hardware overhead.
No installation needed. Drivers are already configured and working from VPS deployment moment:
- Faster disk I/O through VirtIO block drivers
- Better network performance through VirtIO network drivers
- Lower CPU overhead compared to emulated devices
Delivered fully up to date
When deploying Windows Server 2025 VPS, servers arrive fully patched and current with latest Windows Updates. Templates are maintained for secure, current installations rather than hours downloading and installing updates on first boot.
Start working immediately without waiting for lengthy update processes.
Proper Microsoft SPLA licensing
Windows VPS deployment includes properly licensed software through Microsoft’s SPLA (Services Provider License Agreement).
What is SPLA?
SPLA is Microsoft’s licensing program specifically designed for service providers offering software services to customers. It allows hosting providers like ColossusCloud to license Microsoft products monthly and provide them as part of hosted services.
Why SPLA is the only legal option
Reality many VPS buyers don’t realize: SPLA is the only legal way to obtain Windows VPS.
Retail Windows Server licenses, volume licenses, OEM licenses, and other Microsoft licensing programs explicitly prohibit use in hosted or multi-tenant environments. License terms require hardware running software be owned or leased by license holders, not shared in data centers.
This means:
- Cannot legally use retail Windows Server licenses on rented VPS
- Cannot bring own volume or OEM licenses to hosting providers
- “Cheap” Windows VPS offerings using gray-market or retail keys are not legally licensed
When hosting providers offer Windows VPS, they must be Microsoft SPLA partners licensing Windows through SPLA. No alternative exists.
What this means for you
As ColossusCloud customer, no licensing compliance worries. Windows licenses are included with VPS, properly activated, and fully legitimate. Licensing costs automatically calculate based on VPS CPU cores and include in monthly bills.
SPLA licensing for additional Microsoft products is also available:
- SQL Server (Standard and Enterprise editions)
- Remote Desktop Services (RDS) for multi-user access
- Other Microsoft server products as needed
Recommended specifications
For Windows Server 2025:
- RAM: 4 GB minimum (more for heavier workloads)
- Disk space: 50 GB minimum
Windows Server has higher resource requirements than Linux distributions. Starting with 4 GB RAM ensures smooth operation for most workloads, with room to scale as needs grow.
Getting started
- Log into ColossusCloud control panel
- Click to deploy new VPS
- Select Windows Server 2025 from operating system templates
- Choose at least 4 GB RAM and 50 GB disk space
- Deploy server
Windows Server 2025 VPS will be ready in minutes, fully updated, with VirtIO drivers, KVM enlightenments, virtual TPM, and proper Microsoft licensing already configured.
