IPv6 arrives in Amsterdam
IPv6 is now available for all VPS in our Amsterdam data center. Enable IPv6 through the ColossusCloud control panel and optionally request /64 or /56 subnets routed to your server.
This brings Amsterdam in line with our Silicon Valley and Singapore locations, with Las Vegas, Dallas, and Ashburn coming soon.
About our Amsterdam facility
Our Amsterdam presence operates from Digital Realty AMS7, one of the premier data center facilities in the Netherlands.
Digital Realty AMS7
Digital Realty is among the world’s largest data center operators, with AMS7 as their flagship Amsterdam facility. Located in Science Park area, AMS7 offers:
- Carrier-neutral connectivity: Access to wide range of network providers
- High power density: Modern infrastructure for demanding workloads
- Robust physical security: 24/7 security, biometric access controls, CCTV monitoring
- Redundant power: Multiple utility feeds, UPS systems, diesel generators
- Advanced cooling: Efficient systems designed for Dutch climate
- Sustainability focus: Strong environmental commitments
Our infrastructure
As with all locations, we own infrastructure in Amsterdam:
- Supermicro servers with enterprise-grade components
- Own routers and switches for full network control
- Ceph distributed storage for data redundancy
- Backup storage arrays for VPS backup service
We don’t resell capacity from other providers. Hardware is ours, configured and maintained by our team.
Network connectivity
Our Amsterdam network connects through two major carriers:
NTT - Among the world’s largest Tier 1 network providers, NTT operates global backbone with extensive European, Asian, and American peering. Their European network connects particularly well with presence at every major internet exchange.
Cogent - Known for dense European network, Cogent provides excellent connectivity across Western and Eastern Europe. Their network reaches virtually every continent country with low-latency paths.
Both providers peer at major European internet exchanges including AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange), one of the world’s largest IXPs by traffic volume.
Why Amsterdam matters
Amsterdam is the heart of European internet connectivity. More European traffic passes through Amsterdam than any other continental city. AMS-IX alone handles multiple terabits per second of peak traffic.
For customers serving European audiences, Amsterdam provides:
- Low latency to Western Europe (UK, Germany, France, Benelux)
- Excellent connectivity to Eastern Europe
- Strong paths to Middle East and Africa
- Good transatlantic links to North America
Enabling IPv6
For existing Amsterdam VPS:
- Log into ColossusCloud control panel
- Navigate to VPS server list
- Click gear icon next to Amsterdam VPS
- Click Info / IPs tab
- Enable IPv6 interface
VPS created before this feature may need quick reboot for automation to add IPv6 interface. The control panel will notify if this applies.
Routed /64 and /56 subnets
Need more than single IPv6 address? Routed subnets available directly to VPS:
- /64 subnet: 18 quintillion addresses, standard allocation for single network segment
- /56 subnet: 256 /64 subnets for subdivision across multiple purposes
Subnets route to VPS’s dedicated IPv6 interface. Configure addresses on server as needed.
Deploy a VPS in Amsterdam with IPv6 and premium European connectivity.
